A key cause for knife crime is a lack of opportunity and poverty. If there were chances for vulnerable youth to gain employment skills, be part of a community, and achieve a sense of purpose, would the reliance on violence for stability decrease? Skills Not Kills is an imagined initiative I designed - in response to a competition aiming to target Knife Crime - to provide vulnerable youth with a chance to succeed. With free, approachable workshops in trades such as gardening, cooking, hairdressing, nail art, electrical work and more, I hoped to reduce the number of youth turning to crime as a result of a lack of opportunity and community with my campaign.
